Pass Thru style evidence lockers are designed for secure, tamper resistant handling of evidence before processing. Officers simply open an unlocked compartment, puts in the evidence, and turns the handle to lock the compartment. That compartment then cannot be reopened from that door until it is released from the evidence room side. Compartments are accessed from the evidence room side by a large door that opens to multiple compartments.
For front access only models, all doors have turn handle locks that require the master key to open. Lock remains unlocked until in use, an officer simply turns the handle to lock the door. The evidence room attendant uses a master key to access the compartment to collect the evidence and releases the handle for the next key use.
